Admission Policy

Canadian International School Djibouti welcomes students of all nationalities from KG1 through Grade 12. The school provides a Canadian-based educational programme in a safe, inclusive, and multicultural environment. English is the principal language of instruction, supported by French, Arabic, and Islamic Studies.

Admission is subject to the availability of places and the school's ability to meet the educational needs of each student.

Student Assessment

Students applying to the school may be required to complete an age-appropriate assessment or interview. The assessment helps the school understand the student's:

• English language level
• Literacy and numeracy skills
• Previous academic experience
• Learning needs
• Readiness for the requested grade

For younger children, admission may be based on age, previous school experience, and an informal observation rather than a formal written assessment.

Grade Placement by Age

Students are normally placed according to their age at the beginning of the academic year.

The student's previous education, academic records, assessment results, and readiness for the programme may also be considered. The school reserves the right to recommend the grade level considered most appropriate for the student's academic progress and well-being.

Maximum Class Sizes

To maintain an effective and supportive learning environment, the school applies the following maximum class sizes:

When a class reaches its maximum capacity, additional applicants may be placed on a waiting list until a place becomes available.

Additional Learning Needs

Parents must inform the school of any diagnosed learning difficulty, medical condition, disability, behavioural concern, or additional educational need during the application process. Each application will be reviewed individually to determine whether the school has the appropriate staff, facilities, and resources to support the student effectively.

Parents or guardians must provide:

• A completed application form
• Student's birth certificate
• Student's passport or national identification document
• Parent or guardian identification
• Recent passport-size photographs
• Previous school reports or transcripts
• Vaccination or medical records
• Transfer letter, where applicable
• Any additional documents requested by the school

Admission Decision

An offer of admission may be issued after the application has been reviewed, all required documents have been submitted, the assessment or interview has been completed (where required), an appropriate grade placement has been determined, and a place is available in the requested grade.

Admission is confirmed only after the enrolment requirements have been completed and the required fees have been paid.
